A day in the life of Nicola Horwell, Wine Rack Branch Manager
I arrive at 8am to set the till up ready the day’s trading. 9am and the store’s open, I have a cuppa, reconcile the previous day’s paperwork and plan my day ahead - every day is different! Next I print off the reports, do the counts and investigate discrepancies, hopefully there aren’t too many. A wine count can take a while - there are 300 lines! Meanwhile, a delivery arrives which has to be checked and entered into the till. I squeeze in another tea but the phone has rung a few times - other stores call to book our van. Customers call too. The warehouse email then has to be checked for lines which need removing and adding for customer orders, wine tastings and floor lines.
These details are called through to head office. Throughout this there are customers placing orders and buying goods. There may now be time to stock up for the evening or set up tasting table to advertise weekend tastings.
This takes me to 5pm and the evening staff have arrived. I write a list of tasks, as well as the usual stocking up and tidying. After this I have time to check emails and concentrate on emailing the Wine Club members and filing paperwork. I usually leave at around 6pm. I manage an extremely busy store with a great team. It’s demanding but a lot of fun.
